So… Seth messaged me at work about 3:30pm and said he cut his finger while working on a computer at work. Something about his hands were inside the computer and so were the hands of a co worker… And the co worker was pushing a lever that unlocks the drives. It closed in on Seth’s finger and his instant reflex was to pull his finger out of there and it sliced his middle finger....
I asked him how bad it was, and he assured me it wasn’t bad enough to come into urgent care. Yea – I just wanted him to come visit me at work… But he said it wasn’t bad enough.
Then I came home. And he showed me his band-aid’d finger, completely full of blood. I was mad at him for not going to the doctor right away! We were then quickly on our way to the BYU Urgent Care, but we weren’t going to get there in time, and headed to the Riverwoods Instacare. Once we got it all figured out that BYU would pay for it –woo hoo for worker’s compensation- we got back to be seen. The nurse had to scissor the band-aid off and then we saw the damage. He should have gone in right away!
The nurse attempted to clean it, and the flap of skin that was barely hanging on became more exposed and the pain started for Seth. She numbed his finger and had him put pressure on it until the doc came in. We could have done stitches, but it most likely wouldn’t have held together still. So Seth decided he should just cut the flap off. GROSS. It was just gross. I think Seth is going to hurt once the finger get its feeling back.
The next half hour was spent trying to get the bleeding to stop. The nurse couldn’t get it to slow down, so we got the doc back in and he Cauterized it. GROSS. After about 10 minutes of that, we could get it bandaged up. At least it’s his middle finger. Other fingers are more important than the middle one. It should heal in the next 2-3 weeks. It’s quite the chunk out of his finger!! Don’t worry, I got pretty good pictures with the phone camera… Now that we’ve been back over an hour, he is complaining a lot of his Tdap shot they gave him…. What a man.

Sad thing though... we were having a BBQ tonight with our old ward and dear friends. We'll have to rain check that. Luckily we get to see them Friday at a ward camp out.

that just looks really bad. i hope that your finger gets feeling better. we missed ya at the bbq and we will for sure have to do it again sometime.
i was just eeewwwin at the pics on facebook that is just gross lookin poor seth lol, once its healed is there gonna be a noticable amount of finger gone?!? and he didnt think he needed to go to urgent care lol silly men
The doc said it should just heal 'normal'... it'd be cool if he had a scar of some sort. It was pretty disgusting. Yea - he didn't want to go, he said it wasn't that bad. I'm sure if we had put a new band aid on ourselves and looked at it he would have changed his mind. He said at work when it happened, it "just bled a lot" he went through paper towels of blood... and didn't think he had to be seen!?! Yes - silly men.

Oh that's horrible. I didn't look at more than one picture because I get a bit queasy with that stuff but I hope it all heals quickly!
Oh my goodness, you are right! That is disgusting! And to think... I might be cleaning up stuff like that soon :) I am glad you took him in though. Guys are so funny that way, they just don't want to go in ...
FYI Seth . . . when your middle looks like something from a horror movie, it means go to the doctor! sorry buddy, at least you can still play video games!
