Where is this year going!? Well. . . April is half over and I haven't posted anything about the fun month yet. It really has been a fun month so far, except for the moody UT weather, but when is Utah weather not moody? We are use to it.
To start off the month, we were able to go to the Saturday morning session of General Conference. General Conference is a semiannual meeting when general authorities and other church leaders speak and give guidance to the members of the church. This specific session (4 general 2 hour sessions held Sat/Sun) was especially neat to be able to be at. We sustained President Thomas S. Monson as our new prophet, because President Hinckley passed away earlier this year. It was really a special and unique experience to see specified members of the congregation stand to "vote" or "sustain" the new prophet. It started with the presidency, Quorum of the 12 and 70 and on to the other quorums of the priesthood to sisters, young women, and new members/all members. It was just neat to see each person I was surrounded by take their turn and every one counted.
We went with Ben and Melissa, rode the TRAX up to Salt Lake from Sandy, which was a fun trip too. We ate at The Pie in West Jordan for lunch, and it was mm mm good - I recommend it to all!
The Semester is over for me! I was taking two courses for fun this semester (for credit too, even though I've graduated). One was University Band and the other Marriage Enhancement. My concert was Tuesday the 8th. It was really a lot of fun, I'm glad Seth, Aubrey, my Gparents and Phil/Sierra could come. We went out to DQ afterwards, which is tradition. Growing up my parents would always take me out for dessert or something after any of my concerts. Seth also bought me some beautiful roses, it was really fun.
And the next day was my last Marriage Enhancement class and we took our final in class. I didn't study for it much, but I figured since I've only missed like 9pts the whole semester, I'd have some room to still get an A. . . (yes, yes . . . I am bragging). It was different than any other final I've taken because the teacher gave us cake when we were done!! My teacher, and close family friend, Bob Stahmann retired after teaching this class this semester. He has taught for 41 years, and it was time to be done! So his family came in during the middle of the test and said a few words, cried a little, had the video camera going and gave us cake. Right On.
Seth's last day of classes was today! Yay! He had a rough semester of 4 hard classes required for his Major (Psych). And he's done pretty good at balancing study/play/work. He's really working a lot too, I appreciate him so much! He works hard to make ends meet and do well.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN! (AND ABBY!)
Today is my older brother's birthday. His wife and lil girl are in Washington State visiting family so we took him out to dinner and had cake. We ate at L & L Hawaiian BBQ, where Seth and I are almost regulars and had to introduce the place to Ben. I think he approves. We came back for cake and to watch American Idol and just relax. It was a fun evening. I hope he had a good time. I found the cake recipe on msn.com and decided it would be a fun challenge to attempt creating it. On my mission we always made really yummy fruit cakes with layers of cake/whipping cream. There is a difference between whipping cream and cool whip!! And for whatever reason I keep forgetting that difference and just decide at the store when I'm shopping, that cool whip will do. Sometime I will learn. . . Two years ago when Seth and I were dating I attempted to make one of those yummy mission cakes with fruit/whipping cream but the cool whip failed me. . . Tonight's cake worked a tad better, but next time: Whipping Cream is a must!
1st try: Seth's 22nd bday '06 - - - - - - -- - 2nd try: Ben's bday '08
That concludes the April Update. I'll have more to post soon, this weekend I am supervising some volunteers at the Salt Lake City Marathon! Nope, I've never been before and don't know what I'm really doing. But I'm in charge of the VIPS (sponsors/delegates like the mayor, etc)and making sure they know where to go and they get in the VIP section stuff, etc. So I'm excited! It'll be cool. . .
