I have a pair of black slip on shoes that I love. Well, loved. I've had these shoes since Junior High. That was a very long time ago. Seth has been telling me I've needed new ones for months now . . . but I have still worn them almost everyday this summer to work. (I try to sneak my Rainbows on my feet as much as possible, but they are technically banned under the no flip flop rule in the work dress code.) Today when I got home and Seth greeted me at the door I looked down at my right shoe and there was a metal rod sticking out the side of it. I pulled it out, threw it in the trash and Seth commanded me to buy new ones tonight.
While Seth was with a friend doing nerdy things (building a computer), I went shoe shopping. I didn't find anything worth buying to take over my notorious Jr. High slip on black shoes, but I did enjoy the stores I went to. Moms picking out shoes with their pre-teen daughters hitting up the back-to-school sales. Mom's sorting through designed tees on the clothes racks while his teenage son has folded arms with rolling eyes of disgust, dreading what she might make him try on next. It is definitely back to school time. This morning, my youngest sister, Kara (13), spent an hour straightening her friend's hair for their first day of school today. I miss that excitement of buying new school supplies, clothes, etc for the brand new school year. The next time I'll get to experience all of that again is years down the road, when my own children will start school. Unless I can count Seth . . . but he doesn't really count.
I'm just so happy the weather is getting so nice - just how I like it. It's perfect weather to roll down your windows and turn up the radio to make it a joy ride. Can't you just smell it in the air? School is starting . . . and fall is on its way!

I have actually felt that way with Jonathan a little bit because he is starting school after so long! I found a great messenger bag for him on sale at TJMAXX. I went to Staples and got all of the store deals. 25 cent mechanical pencils, 9 cent paper, and of course the free glue. Although I am not quite sure what we are going to do with elmer's glue...
I can't believe Kara is starting school. It is the middle of August...is your mom teaching seminary this year?
Tim has been out of school for 2 years now and me... quite sometime longer. Still, I think this is the first year that I haven't thought in semesters. I guess that is because now I think of it in months, and reference things as "since Ellia".
The very day that the school supplies were stocked on the shelves of Wal-Mart I wanted to buy school supplies. I got to do that the last couple of years for seminary. No such excuse this time, so I splurged on a box of Crayola-16 count- Triangular Crayons-"to promote proper writing grip!". Ellia hasn't ever done any coloring yet, but I think I will break them out on the first day of school for the kids around here.
What are you going to do about replacing those shoes!?!?!
Like your sister, it's been a while since I was in school, but this is Gracie's first year - preschool. I wasn't sure if she'd need any of the school supplies, but I bought them anyways. We'll use them sometime!!! :)
I've been keeping up with your posts dear. You're in my prayers.
love ya! jj
