I really slacked at blogging in October. I have a lot of pictures to post of Pumpkin carving. We carved pumpkins twice this year! It took up two weeks worth of Family Home Evenings, we carved way to early though - our cute jack-o-lanterns didn't last for the big night. In fact, they were so moldy that before Halloween Week our neighbor asked us if he could take a portion of our moldy pumpkin to his class - they had to bring something moldy to study. :)
Mom and Dad Burke came to Utah for a week! We had a blast. They came last Wednesday and just left this morning to fly out of Salt Lake. I hope they enjoyed their Utah visit. Thursday Seth took them to his Doctrine and Covenants class on campus. His teacher, Brother Bott, is notorious at BYU for his photogenic memory and entertaining lectures. After class they visited me at work and I showed them around the BYU Health Center, fun fun. Steve went to visit Davin's work at BYU that afternoon and Seth spent quality time with his mom.
Thursday night after work Seth, Aubrey, me, Sandi and Steve grabbed a fe
w pizzas and ate up in the canyon - it was cold!! We drove the Alpine Loop, I think we all enjoyed it. We found a lonesome Jack-o-lantern sitting on a log in the middle of no where, it was kinda cute, but then again creepy too. Amy, Seth's youngest sister who is attending BYU-Idaho right now, got into town. . Friday afternoon Seth/Davin/Steve all worked on the cars/Davin's scooter. And Sandi took her girls out shopping and around. I was a
ble to get off work a tad early to start making Halloween dinner. We did the 3rd Annual Dinner in a Pumpkin Halloween meal. We made tons! It turned out great, except the rice didn't cook - at all! it didn't even swell up... we decided it was the rice's fault - not the oven. Next time I won't use the good rice, we'll get some minute rice for it. So it was a tad crunchy :) and the picture isn't appealing - but it really was yummy.
Cousin Dave (BYU-I) came into town Friday night to stay just a short 24 hours. We all wish he had stayed longer, but it was fun! He played a VERY MEAN PRANK on us. Brought a girl with him (who is gorgeous and named Megan). We were all shocked he walked in holding her hand!! And moments later announced they were engaged. After an hour of talking about their story and that it was still a secret to the family, etc Dave took her to meet her sister. And he hung out with us... Saturday morning he told us it was all a joke. We were very upset with him - only b/c we were SO excited for him, and kept talking about it that whole night. I was so upset at Dave! He really got us good, but he shouldn't have let it all go on that far. SILLY Dave!????
We watched Invasion for our spooky Halloween movie Friday night - not a single trick-or-treat'er came! So we ate all the candy :). Saturday morning bright and early I had my first practice in Pleasant Grove with the community orchestra. Steve was dying to come listen and so Seth came too and I hope it was worth their time. I'm pretty excited to play with this group. I need to practice more, and get familiar with the music. I guess they haven't had an Oboist for a while, a flute or clarinet usually covers the part. We are playing Handel's Messiah for a Christmas Concert with the Pleasant Grove Choir. It'll be good... They are looking for lots of singers for the Choir - if any of you are interested. They practice in PG on Sunday nights... I think I've successfully convinced Seth to do it - so you'll have a buddy!
Saturday afternoon Davin had a flag football game we all went to and cheered at. He did great, it was super fun - and they won! Yaaay! It was his birthday, so we sang the Birthday song loud and proud on the sidelines. We wanted to even embarrass him, but he liked it too much to get red. We then went out to lunch at Bajios and back to our apartment for presents and ice cream cake. Saturday night we went to Comedy Sportz! It was a blast, I think we all had fun.
Sunday was rainy/gloomy - but a nice relaxing day. We attended our church, played games (ticket to ride) and watched a few movies. Poor Steve had a bad cough all throughout his stay, but it hit the worst on Sunday. Luckily he was feeling considerably better by Monday.
Monday Davin and I worked while the Burke family took a trip to Salt Lake City. Seth and Aubrey both said it was kind of weird to be just them hanging out again since it was the first time in years as just immediate family. Amy said she kind of liked it though :), since she is the youngen party gal not quite hitched yet. They toured the Conference Center and drove around. Last night we all went bowling at the BYU games center. That was a lot of fun! I had a blast... there were 9 of us, friends Phil and Sierra joined us for the FHE.
I was proud of my skills, it has been a while since I bowled. And then we got some grub at Red Robin and it was fun to all chit chat. We took a quick family picture, I'm glad we got one! And then it was packing up, tidying up little last things at the end.
We love family! It was SO nice for Sandi and Steve to be with us. I was a tad nervous about having 3 extra people living in our small apartment for a week, but it was just fine. We hope they come again, and soon!
